Jay Deluhery, DVM
In 1987 having served 4 years on active duty in the Marine Corps, Dr. Jay Deluhery attended Oklahoma Horseshoeing School where he received a Master Farrier’s Certificate. By 1994, he became a Certified Journeyman Farrier and soon developed an interest in equine dentistry. After attending World Wide Equine Dental Academy, he spent several years as an equine dental technician while continuing his very busy farrier practice. Certifying as an equine dental technician with the International Association of Equine Dentistry in 1998, Dr. Jay realized that the complexity of hoof and dental problems in horses would require further education.
Although a California native, Dr. Deluhery has Arkansas ties through family and friends that have developed over the years. He graduated from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, AR where he met and became friends with Dr. Chris Nelson of Providence Veterinary Hospital, Malvern, AR. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2006, Dr. Deluhery earned his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2010 from Virginia Tech where his primary focus was in equine medicine and surgery.
After an Internship with Equine Sports Medicine and Surgery of Weatherford TX, Dr. Jay spent several years working in horseracing in various states. Now his primary focus is a multi-state veterinary practice that is nearly exclusive to the dental and hoof management of the horse. To date, Dr. Jay has shod over 20,000 horses and has performed dentistry on several thousand as well.
